Join us for a day immersed in nature. We start with a hike up Bowscale Fell led by a local guide followed by a homemade picnic lunch and cake on the hill and a sauna and perhaps a dip in the river, hosted by Tarn Saunas.

An elemental day of rock, fire and water awaits.  Join Ros for a hike up past the glacial lake of Bowscale Tarn on paths of grass and heather to the top of Bowscale Fell.  There will be time to explore the summit and take in the vistas.  After a compulsory brew with a view we will descend into the corrie to sit by the tarn for a homemade picnic lunch and cake.  Then it's back down to Mosedale for your sauna and maybe a dip in the river, hosted by Tarn Saunas.

This is a gentle fell walk, suitable for beginners and keen walkers alike, with the emphasis on immersing ourselves in nature in the beautiful Northern Fells, enjoying good food, good company and the benefits of time outdoors and a relaxing sauna and optional dip afterwards.

Book a sauna slot here for 1pm: Tarn Saunas | Mobile Sauna Lake District

Limited parking is available next to the sauna; please do not arrive before 8:45am if parking here.  There is also additional parking in Mosedale village, a 20 minute walk away.

Please let me know if you have any dietary requirements, I will cater for meat eaters and vegetarians as standard and these items will be kept separate from each other.

Mountain Leader

Having lived in Cumbria for more than two decades, I've come to know the Western Lake District in all its moods — from the hidden corners and winding fell paths to the quirks of its ever-changing weather. I'm endlessly eager to explore these landscapes, but always with a healthy respect for the conditions they present.

With a background in Geology and Geography and a deep love for the outdoors, I enjoy bringing the fells to life for others — interpreting the rocks beneath your feet, the landforms that shape our views, and the flora that thrives in this rugged environment. With me, a day in the hills is not just a walk but an experience: informative, rewarding and full of interest.

My professional life has been shaped by more than 20 years as a Geography teacher and over two decades leading the Duke of Edinburgh's Award at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. I've organised and led hundreds of fieldtrips — from local adventures in the Lakes to UK-wide excursions and international trips, including ski trips and a self-planned expedition to Kenya. These years of guiding, teaching and adventuring have shaped my approach: safe, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and always committed to giving people the confidence to enjoy the mountains at their own pace.
